It's bold, it's graphic, and there's really nothing else quite like it in a kitchen drawer.

The "Chequered Heart" is a beech wood cooking spoon, hand-decorated from end to end using pyrography - the art of burning designs directly into wood with a heat pen. No paint, no print, no shortcuts. What you're seeing is the wood itself, darkened and shaped by hand, one careful mark at a time.

The bowl tells the story: a large heart sits front and centre, its background burned to a deep, rich brown that makes the natural wood of the heart pop clean against it. It's not just an outline - Dani has shaded all around it, building up the depth gradually until the contrast between dark and light is almost graphic in quality. Bold, warm, and totally handmade.

Running the full length of the handle is an intricate checkerboard pattern, burned with real precision. Each tiny square is individually worked, wrapping all the way around the handle right down to the very tip - the kind of detail that makes you look twice and then look again.

It works beautifully as a cooking spoon or for serving salads, but honestly it looks just as good propped up in a pot on the worktop. Probably better.

As each spoon is hand made, there is exactly one of these in the world, each spoon is special and unique, even if the Dini Doll pattern is the same. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Care Instructions

These spoons have been coated in several layers of (organic food-safe oil) and to keep it as perfect as possible, you may want to repeat this process if the wood starts looking dry. (The same way as recommended to keep wooden chopping boards in the best condition.)

Please wash your spoon in soapy warm water by hand, but do not allow it to soak for a long time as this could warp the wood. We also recommend not keeping the spoon resting in a hot pot or pan whilst cooking as this could darken the wood on the end which could affect the look of the design.

Happy Cooking!

About The Artist

Dani works from her studio in Hampshire and has never really been someone who sticks to one medium. Pyrography, oil painting, sculpture, textiles, digital art - she moves between them all, guided by a simple belief: the subject should choose the medium, not the other way around. It's an approach that keeps her work genuinely varied and genuinely interesting.
