Pyrography Wooden Spoon, Yin Yang Spoon Dark, One of a Kind, Hand-Burned, Handmade England

£35.00

One of a kind. There’s only one of these.

You’ll pay and choose delivery in my shop at shop.dinnidoll.com, which uses Etsy’s checkout. How ordering works.

A yin yang sits at the back of the bowl, one half burned almost black, the other left as bare beech. Overlaying it are two spirals, one light and one dark, curling down towards the handle.

The back of the bowl is shaded a warm mid-brown, so Dani has three tones to play with: bare wood, mid-brown and near-black. From the neck down, the three twist together into a braid that wraps the handle all the way to the tip. This one swaps the usual vines and flowers for clean bands of colour, which is harder than it looks. Every edge has to stay sharp and every band the same width, or the twist falls apart.

It’s all pyrography, burned into beech with a heat pen, one band at a time. And it’s hard to think of a better symbol for a spoon whose whole job is mixing things together.

It holds its own next to anything: a spiritual kitchen aesthetic, a farmhouse worktop, a shelf of ceramics and odd beautiful things. It also stirs soup perfectly well, which feels like a bonus at this point.

Hand made in Dani's studio in Hampshire. Sold as the single, unrepeatable object it is.

As each spoon is hand made, there is exactly one of these in the world, each spoon is special and unique, even if the Dinni Doll pattern is the same. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Care Instructions

These spoons have been coated in several layers of (organic food-safe oil) and to keep it as perfect as possible, you may want to repeat this process if the wood starts looking dry. (The same way as recommended to keep wooden chopping boards in the best condition.)

Please wash your spoon in soapy warm water by hand, but do not allow it to soak for a long time as this could warp the wood. We also recommend not keeping the spoon resting in a hot pot or pan whilst cooking as this could darken the wood on the end which could affect the look of the design.

Happy Cooking!

About The Artist

Dani works from a studio in Hampshire, across pyrography, oil painting, sculpture, textiles, and digital art. The common thread isn't a style or a material, it's a way of thinking. She starts with what she wants to say and works backwards to figure out what it should be made from. That approach keeps the work from ever sitting still, and it's why something like this spoon ends up feeling like a complete idea rather than a decorated object.
