A sun sits at the back of the bowl, drawn in a handful of sure lines. The rays wave like flames instead of standing in typically, neat straight lines. At the centre is a tight spiral, and a scattering of burned sparks.
Below the sun, a bigger spiral curls down towards the neck of the spoon, where Dani has stippled the wood one dot at a time. There’s no hard line between the pale bowl and the dark handle. The dots just get closer and closer together until there’s no room left between them.
The handle is where the hours went. The background is burned dark all the way round, and out of it come swirls and leaves, with tendrils curling between them, that seem to twist around the wood rather than sit on top of it. The pattern changes as it travels down, so no two stretches of it quite match, and it carries on right to the tip.
This is pyrography, burning straight into beech wood with a heat pen. The dark background is built up gradually by hand, a layer at a time, and it’s slow, unforgiving work. A burn can’t be rubbed out, so every mark has to be right first time.
The back of the bowl is left mostly bare, which gives the sun the space it needs. Light bowl, dark handle, a sun hanging over it all.
It holds its own next to anything: a witchy kitchen aesthetic, a farmhouse worktop, a shelf of ceramics and odd beautiful things. It also stirs soup perfectly well, which feels like a bonus at this point.
Hand made in Dani's studio in Hampshire. Sold as the single, unrepeatable object it is.
As each spoon is hand made, there is exactly one of these in the world, each spoon is special and unique, even if the Dinni Doll pattern is the same. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Care Instructions
These spoons have been coated in several layers of (organic food-safe oil) and to keep it as perfect as possible, you may want to repeat this process if the wood starts looking dry. (The same way as recommended to keep wooden chopping boards in the best condition.)
Please wash your spoon in soapy warm water by hand, but do not allow it to soak for a long time as this could warp the wood. We also recommend not keeping the spoon resting in a hot pot or pan whilst cooking as this could darken the wood on the end which could affect the look of the design.
Happy Cooking!
About The Artist
Dani works from a studio in Hampshire, across pyrography, oil painting, sculpture, textiles, and digital art. The common thread isn't a style or a material, it's a way of thinking. She starts with what she wants to say and works backwards to figure out what it should be made from. That approach keeps the work from ever sitting still, and it's why something like this spoon ends up feeling like a complete idea rather than a decorated object.
